Seychelles – One of the World’s Most Beautiful Islands
The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa. With its postcard-perfect white sand beaches, swaying palm trees and crystal clear waters, it’s little wonder that the Seychelles is often referred to as one of the most beautiful places in the world. If you’re thinking of adding this idyllic island destination to your travel bucket list, here are a few things you should know.
When to Visit
The best time to visit the Seychelles is between May and September when the weather is cooler and there is less chance of rain. December to February is peak season so expect higher prices and more crowds. Outside of these months, it can be quite humid with occasional showers. Regardless of when you go, you’re sure to be blown away by the natural beauty of this place.
What to Pack
Since the Seychelles is a tropical island destination, pack accordingly with light, airy clothing made from natural fabrics such as linen and cotton. And don’t forget your swimsuit! Despite being such a small country, there’s plenty to keep you busy here including hikes, bike rides and kayaking so pack comfortable shoes too. When packing for your beach days, remember that public nudity is not tolerated so leave those tiny string bikinis at home.
Ideal for Relaxation or Adventure?
Although it’s often seen as a romantic honeymoon destination or a place to relax and recharge your batteries, the Seychelles has plenty to offer if you’re looking for adventure too. There are hiking trails leading up mountains with stunning panoramic views, bike trails winding through jungle terrain and kayaking excursions where you can explore hidden coves and secluded beaches. Snorkelling and diving are also popular activities here thanks to the rich marine life which includes giant tortoises, colourful fish and even sharks! For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there are plenty of opportunities for birdwatching – with over 100 different species of birds living on these islands.
Getting Around
The best way to get around the Seychelles is by rental car as public transport is quite limited. However, do be aware that driving standards are not always up to par with western countries so take extra care when behind the wheel. If driving isn’t for you, then another option is hiring a driver/guide who can show you around and offer insights into local culture and history. Given that most visitors come here to chill out rather than go full throttle anyway; taking it slow might just be the best way to experience all that these beautiful islands have to offer.
