Hotels Near St Pancras: Where to Stay Before Your Eurostar

There’s a specific kind of Eurostar traveller who benefits most from staying near St Pancras: the person on an early departure. The first Eurostar to Paris leaves London before 7am. If you live in south-west London, that means a 5am alarm and a 45-minute Tube journey before you’ve had a coffee. Or it means staying five minutes’ walk from the station the night before.

I’ve done both. The latter is considerably better.

The area around St Pancras and King’s Cross has changed dramatically in the last decade — the regeneration of the King’s Cross Central site (Coal Drops Yard, Granary Square, the new Google campus) has brought better restaurants, bars, and a more liveable neighbourhood alongside what was always a functional transport hub. There are now genuinely good hotels at every price point within a 10-minute walk of the Eurostar terminal.

The Hotel in the Station: St Pancras Renaissance

The most famous hotel near St Pancras is inside it. The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel occupies the original Victorian Gothic station building — the George Gilbert Scott-designed facade you see on the Euston Road, with its redbrick towers and pointed arches. The hotel reopened in 2011 after a decades-long period when the building sat derelict.

The rooms are in the Victorian wing and the modern extension behind. The Victorian rooms — particularly on the upper floors with views of the Eurostar platforms through the great glass trainshed — are among the most distinctive hotel rooms in London. The building is extraordinary: ornate ironwork, sweeping staircases, the famous champagne bar on the upper concourse.

Rates: From approximately £250–350 per night for a standard room; significantly more for suites or peak dates. This is a luxury hotel at London prices — you’re paying for the location and the building.

Why stay here: If you’re splashing out on a Eurostar trip and want the experience to start the moment you check in, this is it. You check out in the morning and walk 100 metres to the Eurostar terminal. For an early departure, it doesn’t get easier.

Distance to Eurostar terminal: About 2 minutes on foot — the hotel is physically part of the station complex.

Mid-Range Options

Novotel London St Pancras

On King’s Cross Road, a 5-minute walk from the Eurostar terminal. A reliable Novotel in a good position — functional, comfortable, and competitively priced for the area.

Rates: Typically £120–200 per night. Book ahead for the better prices.

Why stay here: Consistent quality, good breakfast, and genuinely close to the station. If you want a solid mid-range option without surprises, this is a safe choice.

ibis London City — Euston St Pancras

On the corner of Euston Road, close to both St Pancras and Euston station. The ibis formula — small rooms, low prices, central location — is predictable in the best sense.

Rates: Typically £80–140 per night. Among the cheapest options this close to St Pancras.

Why stay here: Price. The rooms are small and no-frills, but if you’re checking in late and leaving early, that’s fine. It does exactly what you need.

Travelodge London King’s Cross Royal Scot

On King’s Cross Road, walking distance to St Pancras. Travelodge’s slightly higher-end offering — still budget, but a step up from the baseline.

Rates: Typically £70–130 per night.

Why stay here: Travelodge’s pricing is predictable and the location is good. Fine for a single night before an early departure.

Premier Inn London King’s Cross

The Premier Inn on Grays Inn Road is roughly 8–10 minutes on foot from the Eurostar terminal. Premier Inn’s proposition — consistent quality, good beds, predictable pricing — holds up well here.

Rates: Typically £90–160 per night.

Why stay here: Premier Inn beds are reliably good for the price. The walk to St Pancras is manageable with a suitcase on flat pavement.

Boutique and Independent Options

The Standard, London

On Euston Road, a few minutes’ walk from King’s Cross St Pancras. The Standard is a stylish mid-to-upper range hotel in a converted 1970s Camden Council building — a deliberately odd but interesting choice that works well. The restaurant and bar are popular with locals, not just hotel guests.

Rates: Typically £180–280 per night.

Why stay here: The design and atmosphere are notably better than a chain hotel at a similar price. Good food and drink options in-house.

The Megaro

On Belgrove Street, literally across the road from the main St Pancras entrance. A small boutique hotel with individually designed rooms, a good bar, and the kind of personal service that a 40-room hotel can deliver and a 300-room chain generally can’t.

Rates: Typically £150–240 per night.

Why stay here: Location and character. It’s as close to the Eurostar terminal as you can get outside the Renaissance, and it has personality.

Apex City of London at King’s Cross

A reliable Scottish-group hotel with a good fitness centre and contemporary rooms. Slightly further from St Pancras (about 10 minutes on foot), but a solid choice if the closer options are full.

Rates: Typically £140–220 per night.

How to Choose

For the ultimate easy morning departure: St Pancras Renaissance (budget allowing) or the Megaro (for value in the same ultra-close category).

For reliable mid-range: Novotel London St Pancras or Premier Inn King’s Cross. Both deliver exactly what they promise.

For budget: ibis on Euston Road or Travelodge King’s Cross. Small rooms, low prices, job done.

For something with atmosphere beyond just proximity: The Standard or the Megaro.

The Neighbourhood

The King’s Cross / St Pancras area is worth knowing for dinner and a drink the evening before your departure.

Coal Drops Yard (5–10 minutes’ walk) is the converted Victorian gasworks redevelopment with independent restaurants, bars, and shops. Caravan Coffee, Dishoom, and Barrafina all have outposts in or near the area. It’s a genuinely pleasant area to spend an evening.

Granary Square faces the Regent’s Canal and has a good cluster of restaurants. On summer evenings, the fountains and terraces are busy with people who work in the area.

The Plough on Museum Street and several other traditional pubs in the King’s Cross/Bloomsbury edge are useful if you want a quieter drink.

Tips for Early Departures

Set two alarms. Missing a Eurostar because you overslept at the hotel across the road would be a particularly painful irony.

Check your passport the night before. Sounds obvious, but it’s easy to pack a bag and realise at breakfast that your passport is in a drawer at home.

Eat something before you get to the station. The food options airside in the Eurostar departure lounge are fine but limited. A proper breakfast at your hotel — or at Dishoom King’s Cross if you’re awake and organised enough — is worth the extra 20 minutes.

The Eurostar check-in opens 30 minutes before departure for Standard, though 45–60 minutes is the comfortable recommendation. For very early trains (before 7am), the security queues are shorter than mid-morning, so the 45-minute buffer is usually more than adequate.
