Live Aqua Cancun: Beach Resort Review

Live Aqua was recommended to me as a couples resort that actually delivers on the romance without being cheesy about it. The adults-only policy means no screaming children at the pool, and the design feels more boutique hotel than mega-resort. I spent four nights there and appreciated the smaller scale – 191 rooms means you actually recognise faces at breakfast by day three. The spa was excellent, the beach is standard Caribbean gorgeous, and the aromatherapy menu in the rooms was a nice touch that I did not expect. It is not the cheapest option in Cancun, but for couples wanting something more refined than the party resorts, this is the one.

Live Aqua Beach Resort is an adults-only all-inclusive on the Caribbean coast, about 15 minutes from Cancun airport. It is smaller than most Cancun resorts — 191 rooms, all with ocean views — which gives it a more boutique feel than the mega-hotels nearby.

The resort

Rooms: Standard, deluxe, master suite, and presidential suite options. All have ocean views and an aromatherapy menu — a thoughtful touch that sets the tone for the place.

Pools: Eight infinity pools in total, including a rooftop pool.

Food and drink: Four restaurants and five bars. Menus include vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. All food and drink is included in the all-inclusive package.

Spa: The Feel Harmony Spa offers massages, facials, and body treatments. Spa treatments cost extra and are not included in the base package.

Activities: Snorkelling, kayaking, yoga, swimming, and other water sports on site. The resort does not have a children’s programme — guests must be 18 or over.

Practical details

Location: On the Caribbean Sea, about 20 minutes from downtown Cancun and 15 minutes from Cancun airport. Complimentary airport transfers are available for stays of four nights or more when booked direct.

Club Level: Live Aqua Club Level rooms come with butler service and access to a private lounge with additional benefits.

Wi-Fi: Complimentary throughout the property.

Mayan Route day trips

If you want to explore beyond the resort, the Yucatan Peninsula has a good number of Mayan ruins within reach. Chichen Itza is the best known (about 3 hours by road), Tulum is closer (around 1.5 hours), and Cobá is a good option for those who want to climb. The resort concierge can arrange tours.
