Jet2 Baggage Allowance 2026: Hand Luggage, Hold Bag and Fees

I fly Jet2 four or five times a year from Leeds Bradford, and the Jet2 baggage allowance is genuinely the best of any UK budget airline. You get a proper cabin bag, a personal item under the seat, and if you’ve booked a Jet2holidays package your 22 kg hold bag is included. Compare that to Ryanair, where the base fare gives you a small backpack and nothing else.

But the Jet2 baggage allowance still catches people out — mainly because flight-only bookings and package holidays have different rules, and nobody reads the confirmation email closely enough. Below is everything you need to know for 2026, including exact sizes, fees, and the mistakes I see people make at the airport.

Quick summary: Every Jet2 fare includes hand luggage (56 x 45 x 25 cm, 10 kg) plus a personal item (40 x 30 x 20 cm). Jet2holidays and Jet2CityBreaks packages add a free 22 kg hold bag per person. Flight-only tickets do not include checked luggage — you have to buy it separately, and it’s cheapest at booking.

Jet2 baggage allowance at a glance

Bag type Dimensions Weight Included with
Hand luggage (overhead) 56 x 45 x 25 cm 10 kg All fares
Personal item (underseat) 40 x 30 x 20 cm No specific limit All fares
Hold bag (Jet2holidays) 158 cm total (L+W+H) 22 kg Package holidays
Hold bag (flight-only) 158 cm total (L+W+H) 22 kg Must purchase

Hand luggage on Jet2

Every Jet2 ticket includes one cabin bag for the overhead locker, sized at 56 x 45 x 25 cm with a 10 kg weight limit. That includes handles and wheels.

This is a full-size cabin bag — the same dimensions British Airways allows. You can bring a proper carry-on suitcase, not just a backpack. For a budget airline, that’s unusual. Ryanair and Wizz Air only give you a small underseat bag on their cheapest fares.

Personal item

On top of the cabin bag, Jet2 allows a small personal item that goes under the seat in front of you: 40 x 30 x 20 cm. There’s no specific weight limit, but it has to actually fit under the seat.

So you’re genuinely carrying two bags into the cabin. I use a small cabin bag backpack as my personal item and a wheeled case overhead. Between the two, I can manage a week without checking a bag.

Recommended: Cabin Max Metz 30L backpack

The Cabin Max Metz at 45 x 36 x 20 cm fits comfortably within Jet2’s overhead cabin bag allowance (56 x 45 x 25 cm) while keeping your weight down to just 0.5 kg empty. That leaves 9.5 kg for your stuff. Opens flat like a suitcase for easy packing, with a padded laptop compartment and organiser pockets. Made from showerproof 600D recycled polyester. Also fits easyJet’s cabin bag allowance (45 x 36 x 20 cm). For the underseat personal item, you’ll want something smaller — a handbag, laptop sleeve, or compact backpack under 40 x 30 x 20 cm.

Do Jet2 weigh hand luggage?

Sometimes, especially if your bag looks heavy or you’re struggling to lift it into the overhead bin. The 10 kg limit is enforced, but Jet2 is less aggressive about it than Ryanair. I’ve had my cabin bag weighed once in about thirty flights — a busy Saturday morning to Tenerife. Staff asked a few passengers at random.

That said, don’t push it. If your bag is clearly over 10 kg and someone notices, you’ll be asked to move items to your hold bag or wear extra layers. A luggage scale at home removes the guesswork.

Guaranteed cabin luggage

On busy flights, Jet2 may gate-check your hand luggage into the hold because the overhead bins are full. If you need your cabin bag with you — medication, work laptop, baby supplies — you can pay for Guaranteed Cabin Luggage through Manage My Booking.

The price is small (typically a few pounds per leg) and it means your bag stays in the cabin even when other passengers’ bags get sent below. If Jet2 still has to gate-check it due to operational reasons, you can contact customer services for a refund of the charge.

Worth it if you’re carrying anything you genuinely can’t be separated from during the flight. Not worth it for a bag of holiday clothes.

Jet2 hold bag allowance

This is where the biggest misunderstanding happens. Whether your hold bag is free depends entirely on how you booked.

Jet2holidays and Jet2CityBreaks packages

If you booked a package through Jet2holidays or Jet2CityBreaks, every passenger gets a 22 kg hold bag included in the package price. You don’t need to add it or pay extra.

Maximum dimensions: 158 cm total (length + width + height). A standard large suitcase — say 75 x 50 x 30 cm, totalling 155 cm — fits with room to spare. If you need a new case, see our luggage sets guide for options that work across multiple airlines.

Each person gets one bag. You can’t split the 22 kg across multiple smaller bags. It’s one bag, up to 22 kg.

Flight-only bookings

If you booked flights only through jet2.com, no hold bag is included. You get hand luggage and a personal item, that’s it. Any checked baggage has to be purchased separately.

This is the number one thing people get wrong. They see “Jet2 includes 22 kg” on a blog and assume it applies to all bookings. It doesn’t. The free hold bag is a Jet2holidays benefit, not a Jet2.com flight-only benefit.

Hold bag prices

When you buy Approximate price per 22 kg bag
At booking (online) From around £10, average £21
After booking (Manage My Booking) Higher — route dependent
At the airport £45 per item plus any excess charges

The lesson is obvious: add your hold bag when you book. The airport price is brutal — £45 per bag, and that’s before any overweight charges on top.

You can add up to three checked bags per person, each up to 22 kg. All bags share the same 158 cm total dimension limit.

Excess baggage and overweight fees

If your hold bag goes over 22 kg at check-in, Jet2 charges £12 per kilogram of excess. A bag weighing 25 kg would cost you an extra £36 on top of the bag price.

The hard limit is 32 kg per bag. Anything heavier gets refused — you’ll need to repack into two bags and pay for a second one.

Can you share baggage weight on Jet2?

This isn’t official Jet2 policy, but some check-in staff will look at the total weight across a group booking rather than individual bags. If you’re travelling as a couple, one bag at 18 kg and another at 26 kg totals 44 kg against your combined 44 kg allowance. Some staff accept this. Others don’t.

Don’t bank on it. Pack to stay within individual limits and treat any flexibility as a bonus. I’ve had it work twice and been refused once, all on the same route.

Flying with babies and young children

Jet2 is one of the more family-friendly budget airlines. Since August 2025, infants under 2 fly free on Jet2.

Baby equipment allowance

Each child or infant gets two items of equipment carried free in the hold. Pick any two from:

  • Collapsible pushchair or buggy
  • Car seat or booster seat
  • Baby carrier (including backpack-style carriers)
  • Travel cot

You can take a collapsible pushchair all the way to the aircraft steps or air bridge, where crew store it in the hold. You collect it at baggage reclaim.

Car seats can also go in the hold for free. If you have an infant under 2 and a suitable car seat, Jet2 may allow it on board so the child has their own seat — but the infant needs to be seated in it for taxi, takeoff, and landing.

Extra infant weight allowance

Infants don’t get their own hold bag, but Jet2 adds an extra 10 kg allowance to the accompanying adult’s 22 kg hold bag — free of charge. That gives you 32 kg in one bag for your things plus the baby’s. Genuinely generous compared to most airlines.

Sports equipment

Jet2 carries sporting equipment at a flat fee.

Item Online price Airport price Notes
Golf clubs From £25 per flight From £30 Max 22 kg in golf bag
Skis or snowboard From £25 per flight From £30 Includes boots and poles
Bicycle From £25 per flight From £30 Must be boxed or bagged, max 32 kg
Surfboard Contact Jet2 Contact Jet2 Not listed as standard; confirm availability
Musical instruments From £25 per flight From £30 Large instruments may need an extra seat

Pre-book online through Manage My Booking — you save around £5 per item versus the airport price. Availability is limited on popular routes, especially golf on Alicante and Faro flights.

Pushchairs and car seats are free, as mentioned above.

Wedding attire

If you’ve booked through Jet2Weddings, you get free Guaranteed Cabin Luggage so your wedding dress stays with you in the cabin, plus an extra 22 kg hold bag on top of the standard allowance. For standard bookings, wedding outfits travel as part of your normal baggage — or you can buy an extra seat so the dress sits beside you in the cabin.

Jet2 baggage allowance compared to other airlines

Airline Cabin bag Size Weight Free hold bag?
Jet2 Cabin bag + personal item 56 x 45 x 25 cm 10 kg With packages
British Airways Cabin bag + personal item 56 x 45 x 25 cm 23 kg combined Depends on fare
easyJet Underseat bag only (free) 45 x 36 x 20 cm No limit No
Ryanair Personal bag only 40 x 30 x 20 cm No limit No
Wizz Air Personal bag only 40 x 30 x 20 cm 10 kg No
TUI Cabin bag 55 x 40 x 20 cm 10 kg With packages

Jet2’s cabin luggage allowance matches British Airways and beats every other UK budget airline. TUI includes a similar cabin bag but no personal item, while Ryanair and Wizz Air only allow a small underseat bag on base fares.

For a detailed breakdown of each airline, see our UK airline baggage allowance comparison.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Assuming flight-only includes a hold bag. It doesn’t. Only Jet2holidays and Jet2CityBreaks packages include the 22 kg bag. Check your booking confirmation — it’ll say exactly what’s included.

Buying bags at the airport. The difference is massive: a hold bag bought at booking might cost £10-21, while the same bag at the airport counter is £45 before any overweight charges. Always add bags online.

Ignoring the 10 kg cabin limit. I see people load up a hard-shell cabin case that weighs 3 kg empty, leaving only 7 kg for contents. Use a lightweight soft bag or backpack instead. My Cabin Max Metz weighs 0.5 kg — that’s 9.5 kg of usable space.

Not pre-booking sports equipment. Golf clubs and bikes have limited slots, especially on holiday routes. If you wait until the airport, they might not have space. Book it when you book your flight.

Carrying a bag over 32 kg. The hard limit is 32 kg per single bag. Jet2 won’t accept anything heavier. If you’re close, split your things across two bags before you get to the airport. Using a packing list helps you plan what goes where and avoid last-minute surprises.

How to add bags after booking

  1. Go to jet2.com and log into Manage My Booking
  2. Select the booking you want to change
  3. Choose the baggage option
  4. Select your hold bag (22 kg) or sports equipment
  5. Pay online

You can do this any time before your flight, but do it as early as possible. The closer you get to departure, the higher the price tends to be.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Jet2 baggage allowance for 2026?
Every fare includes hand luggage (56 x 45 x 25 cm, 10 kg) plus a personal item (40 x 30 x 20 cm). Jet2holidays packages add a free 22 kg hold bag per person. Flight-only tickets don’t include checked luggage.

Does Jet2 flight-only include a hold bag?
No. Flight-only bookings include hand luggage and a personal item only. You need to purchase a hold bag separately — cheapest at booking, most expensive at the airport (£45 per bag).

How much is excess baggage on Jet2?
Jet2 charges £12 per kilogram over your 22 kg allowance. The maximum weight per bag is 32 kg. Anything heavier has to be repacked.

Does Jet2 weigh hand luggage?
Sometimes. The 10 kg limit is enforced but staff don’t weigh every bag. Heavy-looking bags and random checks are the most common triggers.

Can I take a pushchair on Jet2 for free?
Yes. Collapsible pushchairs, car seats, and other baby equipment (up to two items per child) fly free in the hold. You can take the pushchair to the aircraft steps.

How many hold bags can I take on Jet2?
Up to three per person, each weighing up to 22 kg. All bags have a combined dimension limit of 158 cm (L+W+H).

What is the Jet2holidays baggage allowance?
Jet2holidays includes a 22 kg hold bag free per person, plus hand luggage (56 x 45 x 25 cm, 10 kg) and a personal item (40 x 30 x 20 cm).

Is Guaranteed Cabin Luggage worth it?
Only if your cabin bag contains something you can’t be separated from — medication, a work laptop, or baby essentials. It costs a few pounds per leg and guarantees your bag stays in the cabin instead of being gate-checked on busy flights.

Can I share hold bag weight between passengers?
Not officially. Some check-in staff allow flexibility within a group booking, but it’s at their discretion. Always pack to stay within individual 22 kg limits.

Jet2 baggage allowance summary

Know what’s included with your fare type. Package holidays include the 22 kg hold bag; flight-only doesn’t. Add any bags when you book — not at the airport — and weigh your cabin bag before you leave the house. That’s it. No surprises, no £45 airport fees, no repacking at check-in.
