Things to do in Singapore

Singapore Botanic Gardens

These botanic gardens are a World Heritage Site and was established in 1859. Characterised by lakes, lush lawn and themed gardens, the 82-hectare garden is a must-visit for keen gardeners, botany buffs and those who simply want to relax.

From the very moment you enter the main gate, you will be inspired to want to have a magnificent garden of your own.

Visit the SBG Heritage Museum, where you will be taken on a journey through the history of the garden and you will find multimedia interactive exhibits.

The Green Gallery displays botanical exhibits. Make your way through the Ginger Garden where you will encounter a waterfall and huge Amazon water lilies.

Head to the Rain Forest section, where you will see fruit trees and the very tall Jelutong. At the section called Palm Valley, relax beside various types of palm trees.

There are also a number of free-standing sculptures within the Singapore Botanic Gardens which include sculptures of elephants, a clock tower, Cranes and Geese.

The Singapore Garden Festival takes place here. The festival runs from 23-31 July. Visitors will be able to see more than 1,000 species of plants on display.

Marina Bay

This popular attraction in Singapore is filled with skyscrapers and plenty of activities and sites to keep you entertained.

Try your luck at the Marina Bay Sands Casino or view the city from the SkyPark. The SkyPark is spectacular! A real masterpiece of engineering, the SkyPark is located on top of the Marina Bay Sands 3 buildings.

From 200 metres in the air visitors can observe the wonderful views of the city. The SkyPark stretches 1,2 hectares and also features gardens and restaurants.

For something a bit different, museum-goers will enjoy the ArtScience Museum.

The building is impressively designed in the form of a Lotus flower. Inside the museum, over 20 galleries will capture your imagination.

You will even find a Harry Potter display. It’s hard to miss this awesome museum. Be sure to check it out.

Gardens on the Bay

This awe-inspiring 101-hectare nature park is a must-visit when you are in Singapore.

Huge man-made trees towering into the sky will catch your attention as you walk through Supertree Grove.

At night the park comes to life with a music and light show at the centre of the grove. The trees are between 9 and 16 storeys tall and are actually vertical gardens.

Even stroll high above the ground along a walkway that connects the trees. Head to the Cloud Forest, which looks like a giant shell.

Here you will get a glimpse of an array of plants situated on a 35-metre high mountain.

If you are hungry and need to take a timeout from all the exploring, have a picnic on the lawn.

Take a walk to one of the lakes which are filled with marine life or go to the Children’s Garden, where a treehouse and water tunnels await.

There is also the Flower Dome, which brings plants to life like you have never seen before.

Singapore Zoo

Put on your safari gear and go to the zoo. Singapore Zoo is well-known around the world for having one of the best settings for wildlife.

Situated in the Mandai rainforest, the zoo is home to over 2,800 animals.

These include birds, mammals and reptiles.

It’s great to see animals roam freely in their natural habitat without being in cages. You can either get around the zoo on a tram or walk at your own pace.

Singapore Zoo has a number of exhibitions that allow you to get close to animals – you may just make a new friend.

Visit the Fragile Forest, where you will see flying foxes and lemurs.

There’s even a night safari! It’s recommended you spend a whole day at the zoo to fully appreciate it.

Clarke Quay

Get a real feel of Singapore in Clarke Quay.

Hotels, restaurants and clubs are the order of the day, so take your pick.

The atmosphere here is superb and you will get a real taste of what the country is like.

It’s not just the nightlife that makes tourist stream to Clarke Quay.

Cruise the Singapore River by boat and journey underneath bridges and pass historic monuments.

The Changi Museum

This museum is dedicated to those who lived and died in Singapore during the Second World War.

Look through photographs and letters written by prisoners and other artefacts. You will also see old shoes of prisoners.

The museum also has life-size mural paintings and a replica of the Changi Chapel. The chapel was originally built by prisoners as a place to worship.

The museum also has an art gallery which showcases works from inmates.

After a trip to the Changi Museum, check out the surrounding attractions of Changi Beach and Changi Village.

Orchard Road

Did anyone say shopping? Orchard Road is a well-known boulevard that consists of spas, hotels, boutiques, restaurants and cafés.

Shopaholics will find anything from electronics to the latest fashion labels. This is shopper’s paradise!

MacRitchie Reservoir

Singapore’s oldest reservoir, this is a popular spot for walkers and joggers.

Kayak or take a stroll along the boardwalk to take in the scenery. Make sure you do the Treetop Walk.

The walk includes a journey across a 250-metre high bridge where you will get a magnificent view of the forest canopy.

The Treetop walk takes about 3 hours. Wear comfortable shoes.

Chinatown

This is the perfect place for buying souvenirs for friends and family.

The area is a mix of old and new. Immerse yourself in a bit of Chinese culture. Walkthrough alleyways and catch a glimpse of a few small reminders of Chinese history.

Stop off at the many restaurants and food stalls for a bite of stir-fried noodles. Don’t miss a visit to this great part of Singapore.

Merlion Park

Ever wondered where the idea for the iconic Merlion comes from?

The body of the half-fish-half-lion is symbolic of Singapore’s beginnings.

The head signifies Singapore’s original name Singapura or ‘lion city’.

This is a great place to relax and take in the view of the brilliant Marina Bay Sands.
